What you need to apply press-on nails
Work on a clean, well-lit surface and prepare:
- your press-on tips in the correct sizes;
- a small nail file;
- a wooden stick to gently push back the cuticles;
- a nail cleansing wipe or a suitable nail cleanser;
- gel pads or glue made specifically for false nails.

Step 1: choose the right size for every nail
Place each tip over your natural nail without adhesive. It should cover the nail from side to side without touching the skin. A tip that is too wide may lift around the edges, while one that is too narrow leaves part of the natural nail exposed.
If you are between two sizes, choose the one that follows your natural nail curve most closely. You can lightly file the edges for a better fit without significantly changing the shape.

Step 2: prepare your natural nails
Preparation is the most important part of a clean application and helps prevent early lifting.
- Wash and dry your hands thoroughly. Your nails must be completely dry.
- Gently push back the cuticles. The tip should adhere to the nail, not the skin.
- Lightly buff the surface. A gentle pass is enough to remove shine without thinning the nail.
- Cleanse each nail. Avoid touching the surface with your fingers afterwards.
Do not apply hand cream or cuticle oil immediately before application because oils reduce adhesion.
Step 3: apply gel pads or nail glue
Using gel pads
Choose a pad slightly smaller than your natural nail. Place it in the centre, leaving a small gap near the cuticle, and press firmly to remove air bubbles. Peel away the protective film without touching the adhesive.
Using false-nail glue
Only use glue designed for nails and follow its instructions. Apply a thin, even layer. Too little glue can leave gaps, while too much may spread onto the skin.
Step 4: position the press-on tip
Place the tip close to the base of the nail without covering the cuticle. Hold it at a slight angle, align it with the natural nail, and slowly lower it towards the free edge. This helps push out trapped air.
Press firmly across the entire tip for several seconds, paying attention to both sides. Make sure the nail is straight before the adhesive sets fully.
A useful tip is to apply the thumbs last so you can use them to handle the other nails.
Step 5: protect the fresh application
Avoid water, steam, and oily products immediately after application. The adhesive needs time to stabilise. Applying your press-ons in the evening can give them time to set undisturbed.
