How to care for your natural nails between two applications?

Découvrez comment entretenir et renforcer vos ongles naturels entre deux poses de faux ongles press-on. Conseils hydratation, alimentation et routine MB Beauty.

Regularly wearing press-on nails is perfectly compatible with healthy natural nails — provided you take care of them between applications. Here is our complete routine to keep your natural nails strong, hydrated, and healthy.

Why care for your natural nails between applications?

Even though MB Beauty press-on nails are designed not to damage your natural nails, the latter still need regular attention. A healthy and well-hydrated natural nail adheres better to press-ons, ensures better hold, and remains resilient in the long term. Neglecting your natural nails between applications can lead to brittle, ridged, or peeling nails.

Step 1 — Let your nails breathe

After each press-on nail application, give your natural nails a break of at least 24 to 48 hours before applying new press-ons. This resting period allows the nail to breathe, hydrate naturally, and recover. If you've been wearing press-on nails continuously for several weeks, take a 3 to 4-day break to let your nails regain their natural balance.

Step 2 — Hydrate daily

Hydration is the key to resilient natural nails. Apply cuticle oil every night before sleeping — gently massage the base of each nail and cuticles for 1 minute. This simple habit visibly improves nail quality in 2 to 3 weeks.

  • Jojoba oil — ideal for fragile and brittle nails
  • Sweet almond oil — nourishing and soothing for cuticles
  • Argan oil — strengthening and protective

Avoid overly greasy moisturizers on nails just before applying press-ons — they reduce adhesion. Reserve intense hydration for periods when you're not wearing press-ons.

Step 3 — File correctly

Between applications, lightly file your natural nails to even out their length and prevent breakage. Always use a soft nail file in one-directional movements — never back and forth, which weakens the nail. File in a single direction, from the outside to the center.

Avoid cutting your nails with scissors or clippers if possible — a file is always gentler on the nail edge.

Step 4 — Push back cuticles regularly

Well-maintained cuticles allow for better adhesion of press-on nails and a more aesthetic result. After your shower, when cuticles are softened by the heat, gently push them back with the orange stick included in your MB Beauty kit. Never cut your cuticles — they protect your nail from infections.

Step 5 — Protect your nails daily

Even without press-on nails, protect your natural nails from daily aggressions:

  • Wear gloves for washing dishes, cleaning, and gardening
  • Avoid harsh household products without protection — detergents dry out and weaken nails
  • Use your fingertips rather than your nails to open boxes or scratch surfaces
  • Avoid acetone as much as possible — prefer acetone-free removers for classic polishes

Step 6 — Diet for strong nails

The health of your nails also comes from within. Certain nutrients are particularly important for strong and resilient nails:

  • Biotin (vitamin B8) — eggs, nuts, almonds, legumes
  • Protein — meat, fish, legumes, dairy products
  • Iron — spinach, lentils, red meat — an iron deficiency causes brittle and ridged nails
  • Zinc — pumpkin seeds, cashews, seafood
  • Vitamin C — citrus fruits, peppers, kiwi — promotes collagen synthesis which strengthens nails

Signs your nails need attention

Learn to recognize the signs of weakened nails to act quickly:

  • Peeling nails → lack of hydration, use oil daily
  • Brittle nails → biotin or iron deficiency, increase your dietary intake
  • Vertical ridges → normal with age, hydrate regularly
  • Soft and flexible nails → too much exposure to water, wear gloves
  • White spots → usually harmless, often related to an impact

How long before applying new press-ons?

There's no strict rule — listen to your nails. If, after removal, your nails appear healthy, smooth, and strong, you can apply new press-ons after 24 hours. If your nails appear weakened or ridged, give them 3 to 5 days of recovery with intensive hydration before the next application.
